1. Mission

The Master programme ECOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE has the mission to train professionals with academic credentials able to accomplish a coordination of conventional agriculture with the principles of organic farming and also from an economic and social point of view. This programme is also designed to train specialists in organic agriculture having the capacity to develop and organize ecological technologies specific to micro-areas, to establish and manage an organic farm, ensuring the conversion from intensive farming to clean agriculture.

2. Objectives

This programme provides postgraduate training on different levels, such as agricultural technologies with low polluting impact and principles of ecological agriculture. This Master's programme also trains graduates for future doctoral studies so they may bring their contribution to scientific and technological progress in the field.

The educational objectives of this specialization aim to:

  1. Assimilate, enhance and integrate methodological theoretical and technological concepts of organic farming.
  2. Develop the capacity of analysis and interpretation of the factors involved in eco-agricultural production.
  3. Develop and adapt organic farming technologies, in compliance with current regulations, prevention of crop and environmental pollution.
  4. Impact assessment of eco-agricultural technologies in terms of quality and capitalization of agricultural production.
  5. Improve professional communication skills in different professional backgrounds and providing expertise consultancy.

The objectives mentioned above are obtained through the operationalization of educational competences and they are: a) professional skills and b) transversal skills, as follows:

a. Professional competences:

C1.Developing scientifically grounded organic farming technologies, in compliance with the principles of organic farming.
C2.Adapting and developing eco-agricultural technologies correlated with the characteristics of crop micro-areas.
C3.Assessing the economic efficiency of various applied organic agriculture technologies.
C4.Applying Community Agricultural Policy measures to organic farming.
C5.Planning and organizing an ecological farm in compliance with current regulations.

b. Transversal competences

CT1.Identifying directions and opportunities for continuous professional development, in accordance with trends in organic farming.
CT2.Assuming responsibility for activity in multidisciplinary work teams, in compliance with professional ethics.
CT3. Communicating efficiently in different professional environments, using specific methods and techniques.

The competences acquired in accordance with the educational objectives of the specialization (aligned with the discipline structure of the academic curriculum) enable graduates to become fully qualified in compliance with the requirements of agricultural engineering. These competences are at the same time in agreement with those acquired by graduates of similar study programmes in EU countries.
